Chloe Stella has completed an internship program at Pitcher Partners.

Chloe Stella has spent the past year experiencing life as a professional accountant.

The RMIT University student has been undertaking an internship with accounting firm, Pitcher Partners.

Ms Stella completed the 12-month Cooperative Education Placement as part of her four-year Bachelor of Business (Professional Accountancy) degree.

The Cooperative Education Program is one of the best examples of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) at RMIT.

By undertaking the program students are able to obtain hands-on work experience, which is invaluable when competing in the job market.

Throughout her placement with Pitcher Partners, Ms Stella worked in the Management Accounting Group within the Business Advisory and Assurance (BAA) Division.

The work she completed varied throughout the year and gave her the regular opportunity to travel and work from the client’s offices.

Ms Stella enjoyed being one of the few interns to take on bookkeeping duties and said she found it extremely satisfying to see the outcome of all her work.

While admitting that there were some challenges with starting a new job and getting used to the full-time working week, Ms Stella said that the training and support offered by her colleagues made the transition easier.

Ms Stella strongly recommends the Pitcher Partner Internship Program to other students.

She said it opened her eyes to the many different areas of accounting and gave her a clearer idea of where she wants to be in the future.

“After completing my internship I know I want to continue my career in a similar sized firm.

“I believe I fit in with the culture of a smaller firm and I think the resources they have to offer will provide me with the building blocks for a successful career.”

Ms Stella has accepted an offer to return to Pitcher Partners in 2011 after completing the final year of her degree.

Pitcher Partners is a long-standing supporter of RMIT students, providing them with unique WIL opportunities.

Applications for the 2011 Internship Program close on Wednesday, 14 July. Applicants can apply via the careers section of the website.
