Design Victoria has launched “Designing Our Future. A Report on Tertiary Design Education in Victoria”.
The research report focuses on the undergraduate education, training and development of the next generation of designers in the areas of industrial design, graphic design and to a lesser extent, multimedia design.
At the launch, Dr John Fidler from Wallis Consulting Group gave a presentation of the key research findings.
Professor Peter Sheldrake from the Graduate School of Business and Law at RMIT University then led a panel discussion on how tertiary education institutions and industry can respond to the research findings, stimulating comment and opinion from the audience.
The research findings provide government, the education sector and the design industry with an excellent platform for discussion around the continual process of tailoring training and education to develop the finest design graduates.
Until the end of February people can visit the Designing Our Future forum to see what others in industry have to say about the implications of the findings and to contribute thoughts and feedback.
The Design Victoria Strategy represents the State Government’s commitment to the continued improvement and development of a world-class design industry in Victoria.
It is delivered by RMIT in collaboration with industry stakeholders.
