TAFE Eligibility Exemption Places

Please note: All places have been allocated and this scheme is now closed.

The TAFE eligibility exemption places scheme provides eligible TAFE students in an Australian full-fee place with the opportunity to apply for a limited number of government subsidised places.

If you are successful in applying for a TAFE eligibility exemption place, you will pay the fees for a government subsidised place, rather than the full-fee amount.

There are a small number of RMIT programs that are only offered on a fee-for-service basis. If you are enrolling in one of these programs, you will not be able to apply for a TAFE eligibility exemption place as they do not admit government subsidised students.

A separate application is required for each TAFE program for which you are seeking an exemption place.

Note: Strictly limited places are available for 2012. Exemption places will be allocated on a first come first served basis to students who meet the eligibility criteria. It is important that a complete application with all supporting documentation is submitted as early as possible. Applications will not be accepted after all places have been allocated.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a TAFE eligibility exemption place, you must be:

  • commencing, or enrolled in a TAFE course in an industry sector or qualification specified by the Victorian Skills Commission as an area of critical skills shortage, or
  • significantly disadvantaged in the labour market because of factors that constitute a barrier to employment or re-employment, or
  • able to demonstrate one of the following equity backgrounds:
    • Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander.
    • Disability or long-term medical condition.
    • Gender in non-traditional areas of employment.
    • Unemployed or recently retrenched.
