Choosing Courses - What do I want to enrol in?

How to search for a course

Start your search at program structures, where you can find courses available within a particular degree.

How to choose courses from a specific academic program

  1. Select a program that you are interested in. For example, if you are looking for a chemistry course, search using the keyword 'chemistry'.

  2. Select a relevant program (e.g. Bachelor of Applied Chemistry) and click on the title.

  3. Select a course by clicking on the course title to find a detailed description including content.

Study loads: All Study Abroad students are required to take a full time study load of 36 or 48 credit points. Most RMIT students take four 12-credit point courses each semester.

Please note:

  • Course availability is subject to change. We recommend that you list eight courses, in order of preference, on your application form.
  • Design based courses (i.e. VART, GRAP, ARCH course coding) will require a folio to be submitted with the application.

Are all courses offered throughout the year?

No. Some courses may only be offered in the first semester, some may only be offered in the second semester, not all will be offered throughout the year. This information is in the table that details each course which is part of the degree.

What if I want to enrol in a course not related to my current program?

If you would like to enrol in a course that is not directly related to your current program, the relevant school must approve your request. For example, if you are currently studying architecture and you want to enrol in marketing, the RMIT school responsible for marketing will have to approve your request.

Can I enrol in a TAFE (VET) course?

RMIT is a dual-sector institution. In Australia, any institution that offers higher education (coursework and research) and TAFE (vocational education and training) programs is considered a dual sector.

TAFE is typically suitable for students who are studying at a Community College, vocational institution or technical institution, however, any student is welcome to select courses from this area as long as they meet the pre-requisites and are studying a full time on-campus load of TAFE courses only.

TAFE semesters start at different times to the higher education semesters; therefore, students can only apply for one or the other, that is, all courses at higher education level or all four courses at TAFE level.

Courses are offered in the following areas:

If you see a course you are interested in and would like more information, write down the Course code e.g. HUSO2036, then go to TAFE Course Guides and type in the Course Code.

You must only choose courses offered in the semester that you are interested in e.g. February or July. Some TAFE courses are only offered for a full year and can’t be taken as a semester course.
