We engage with business, government, the not-for-profit sector and the community in a variety of ways including:

Student placements

A crucial part of RMIT’s commitment to work-relevant education is delivered through Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) and paid student placements in industry are an important component of WIL. Other WIL opportunities include voluntary placements, industry based projects, simulated work experiences and the Business Plan Competition.

Research Partnerships

The College of Business is heavily engaged in both knowledge creation (through research) and knowledge dissemination (through teaching and work integrated learning).

We have a special focus in pursuing rigorous research that provides solutions to industry and society at large and which promotes social, cultural and economic benefits.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

VET programs focus primarily on the operational through to the middle management level and enhance the level of knowledge and skills to support work-based activities and business outcomes required.

Options include:

  • Short courses - short courses and single subjects are designed to provide short and sharp solutions to a skill development or knowledge need. These programs may be suitable for achieving one off up skilling needs for individuals.
  • Customised onsite delivery - programs are developed in consultation with enterprises to ensure clearly defined outcomes and industry relevance is achieved. Work based delivery and the availability of contemporary online resources and media are key features of RMIT University’s educational offerings to industry clients.
  • Traineeships - traineeships in the Business TAFE School are available in the areas of Business, Business Administration, Frontline Management, Information Technology, Warehousing and Logistics, Retail. Traineeships allow the necessary training for skill based qualifications to be completed through a combination of on and off the job training.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning - in recognition of existing knowledge and skill levels of employees, formal recognition is available through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. This can be done on an individual basis or as part of an accredited program offering within industry.
  • Auspice arrangements - for organisations which have well developed workforce development strategies, the option of an auspice arrangement with RMIT University can provide formal certification against accredited qualifications.

Executive Education

Executive Education works with industry and government organisations at the local and international level to provide a wide range of training, professional development and consultancy services.

The emphasis is on designing and delivering programs and short courses which align with the learning and knowledge needs of the client group. Practicality is an essential focus and our programs and courses combine a structured mix of lectures, presentations by experts in the field, group and individual activities and site visits.

College of Business Industry Advisory Board

RMIT University is strengthening its industry ties with the launch of the College of Business Advisory Board. This inaugural Board will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic development of the College of Business both nationally and internationally.

The board consists of high profile business leaders from a range of industries who will work together to further business education and research at RMIT.

APEC Study Centre
The Australian APEC Study Centre at RMIT University’s College of Business, together with its component facility, the Melbourne APEC Finance Centre, promote Australia’s, Victoria’s and RMIT’s strategic, economic, social and educational objectives throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The Centre also manages training programs, conferences and symposia on issues related to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
