International study tours are a unique opportunity for you to combine an overseas travel and cultural experience, with studies focusing on various aspects of a region or area of study.
One of the great benefits of RMIT University is you are encouraged to participate in study tours and other different events that can give you global perspective.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students have the opportunity to undertake International Study Tours ‑ a 12 or 24 credit point course (one or two general electives) studied overseas as part of their degree. TAFE students can also take part in a European study tour for credit towards their studies.
Many tours are open to students from across the university, studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level. In such cases, course content is designed to be generalist so that all students can participate, regardless of the degree studied.
Tours that focus on a particular discipline often include site visits to give students exposure to industry experts, and an insight into international practices, enterprises and standards relating to that career or industry.
Study intensives - are generally for one week, and you will learn in a classroom setting.
Study tours – are generally for two to three weeks, and you may learn through a combination of classroom face-to-face learning, site visits and cultural experiences. The College also offers multi-destination three week international study programs which are particularly suited to accounting students.
When you are accepted on a study tour/intensive, you enrol in a specific course (see individual destinations for details). Before you travel, you will attend workshops exploring cross-cultural issues.
Then you will head overseas to study intensively – this may include going on site visits to local businesses, attending classes at an overseas university, joining a cultural tour, or a combination of any of these.
During your time overseas, you participate in assessment tasks and in most cases, complete additional requirements when you return to RMIT. For example, assessment tasks may include a group presentation, a business report, a reflective learning journal or an individual assignment.
If you’ve done everything right, the study tour or intensive is credited towards your RMIT studies.
Some tours may be available only to undergraduate or postgraduate students. Some may also be best suited to students studying particular courses or programs. Please check the information about each study tour destination to ensure you meet eligibility requirements.
Application forms are available from each study tour destination page. Additional selection criteria may apply, and extra documentation may be required depending on the destination, visa requirements and citizenship of study tour participants.
In some cases, a deposit is required at the time of application.
Closing dates vary for each tour, but in all cases, early application is advised.
The cost of a study tour will vary depending on the destination. The cost will generally include airfares, taxes, insurance, accommodation and visa fees.
In addition, students pay tuition fees associated with studying the equivalent of two RMIT general elective courses, including any related materials fee associated with these electives.
Travel grants, scholarships and bursaries may be available to RMIT student. Contact individual tour leaders or the Education Abroad Office for further information.
