Dr Warren Staples gave a keynote speech at the 2010 Queensland Logistics and Supply Chain Conference.
Dr Warren Staples, Lecturer in RMIT University’s School of Management, gave a keynote speech at the 2010 Queensland Logistics and Supply Chain Conference in September.
The conference was attended by more than 400 supply chain, logistics, transport and procurement professionals from the private and public sectors. The theme was "2020 Vision: Harmonisation, Innovation, Acceleration".
Dr Staple’s presentation focused on "Public Value in Public Sector Infrastructure Procurement".
In it, he outlined the challenges facing the public sector when procuring infrastructure while focusing on achieving value-for-money outcomes, which is enormously important when spending taxpayer funds.
Dr Staples proposed the need for new ways of thinking about the value created by state infrastructure projects.
"There are enormous opportunities for public sector clients to think about how they engage with suppliers and potentially develop supply chain and industry capacity," he said.
Conference chair and President of the Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Australia (SCLAA), Queensland Division, Vince Aisthorpe, said: "Dr Staples provided a great insight into his research in relation to value-for-money issues, the selection criteria employed as well as the contractual and supply chain approaches used to best advantage public sector clients.
"His presentation style was friendly and engaging and feedback from conference attendees was very positive."
Dr Staples’ research interests lie in the field of public sector, services, supply chain and quality management. He teaches Ethics and and has recently been awarded his doctorate, focusing on infrastructure procurement by public sector clients.
