“Evolve or stagnate” – that was what Dr Carol Nicoll, CEO of the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC), told a seminar convened by the Awards and Grants team within RMIT University’s Learning and Teaching Unit.
At RMIT to discuss changes in ALTC Award and Grant Programs for 2011 and strategic directions for the ALTC, Dr Nicoll outlined ways in which the ALTC was evolving.
“There is a need to change the focus – not just hand out money,” she said.
Since her appointment as CEO in February, Dr Nicoll has been reorienting the ALTC to provide leadership on policy issues across the learning and teaching policy spectrum.
She is keen to ensure the ALTC has a sector-wide impact, not just an individual institutional impact.
This means deriving greater benefit from what has already been funded and, through effective dissemination, ensuring funded projects have the widest possible impact on student learning outcomes.
Staff at the workshop were able to hear first-hand about ALTC Award and Grant opportunities in 2011 and ask questions relevant to their discipline or role.
One change which has created considerable excitement is the development of a new category of Citation Awards for Early Career Academics, with 10 to be awarded in 2011, out of 210 Citations overall.
Other areas of development which staff learned about included the creation of two new programs:
