
Dr Ziggy Switkowski – Chancellor
The Council is the governing authority of the University and is responsible for ‘the direction and superintendence of the University’. The role of Council is set out in the RMIT Act 2010 (PDF 756.9kb 69p) and it is this Act that defines the objectives of RMIT University and the Council’s statutory responsibilities. The Council is chaired by the Chancellor, Dr Ziggy Switkowski.
In September 2003, RMIT Council adopted a Governance Charter (PDF 172kb 4p) which sets out the responsibilities of Council, Council members, the Chancellor and Chairs of Council Committees. In December 2005 Council adopted Corporate Governance Guidelines which summarise Council’s approach to corporate governance.
